 @falsemcnuggethope I think he meant the tail boom being long, so it ONLY gave torque canceling and no sideways thrust on the body of the helicopter

@astromonkey2 I appreciate that you are aware that we use something other than Imperial units in the US!! You get extra credit! Lol And it's USC, or US Customary Units that we use. Forked off from the British Imperial system centuries ago.

@Speeder84XL while it would be better to use the open framework, if the fan is mounted a normal distance away from the solid platform and is blowing up, it will still give a relatively accurate reading, because the air can flow sideways between the fan and the platform before being accelerated up and away. It's the same way a fan can move air when suspended close to the ceiling, it still has to get air sideways to blow down. What you are thinking of is if you put a ducted fan hard against a surface, so the suction/thrust was completely contained, but if you give a little bit of space, air flows away.

@thedeadpoolwhochuckles.6852 if you think about the number of high precision certified scales in use in every manufacturing facility, factory, packing plant, laboratory, truck stop, lumber mill, store, Cannabis shop, pharmacy, etc etc etc, you would realize that a scale technician is most certainly a thing, because someone has to install and repair and calibrate all of them! Lol

@EricGerlachCa a little bit of what you mentioned there is done by the control mixing system, basically just some extra bell cranks or cams between the collective and the cyclic controls, and some through the design of the rotor head etc, but most of it is just done by feel, knowing how much input to give each control to get the needed response, without a lot of thought about the details you listed. Not going up as fast as you want? Pull up harder until you are! Lol And obviously there is a lot of skill that goes into knowing what is needed, but it becomes muscle memory for most flying conditions.

Also, the power to the rotors is basically constant, most helicopters run at cruise power constantly, it's the amount of pitch that is changed, which obviously changes the amount of power they take, but it's kind of backwards lol

@WJCTechyman you don't use Imperial in Canada at all, because we don't use Imperial in the US! Lol It's US Customary Units, and they differ from Imperial, especially in liquid measurements like the pint and gallon.

Because the aerofoil is to reduce drag, and is not needed to produce thrust/lift/airflow. It also only works in one direction, and these fans are reversible. Same reason these blades are straight with a simple angle, not contoured like some single direction fans, because it needs to be equal in both directions. @Nderak

@CoryMck except it doesn't actually change the weight of the fan, it's just an artifact of the scale design. If you had an anti torque system on the fan to isolate the scale from the torque (as it should have been), you would not see the torque effect.

@kingeryck1 but wings fly by pushing air down, the whole equal and opposite reaction thing, it's the throwing the air down that creates the low pressure as the equal and opposite reaction, not the other way around lol

@pitecusH speaking of ancient DEAD languages, you are correct,, but in English it must certainly IS Heli-copter, because Heli or Copter are the most common abbreviations or nicknames for it, and in English we OBVIOUSLY have NEVER cared what the original users thought, we just appropriate words however we feel like it! Lol

@WJCTechyman it's not a product of, it's the relationship between. Pounds have never been a product of the metric system, they just got a fixed relationship at one point so that you always know what the conversion factor is between them. And currently both of them are based on physical constants, so no more prototype weights or measures sitting in a lab somewhere.
