@dewilson55 The Midwest is also notoriously unwelcoming to people who aren't white, though. Not every American has the choice to live there.

⁠ @thejsixm2357 I disagree with this take wholeheartedly. If you are of a visibly marginalized identity in the U.S., this is not a good time to exist in. In fact, it's often a downright scary one. Have there been worse places and eras? Yes. Does that make this one good? Not a chance.

As a non-white, queer American woman, I take ZERO responsibility for this mess. Straight white Canadians (and other white people from colonialist settler countries) have far more in common with the oppressors fucking things up for the marginalized and have-nots than I do. On a side note, I really wish white liberal Americans would stop referring to Canadians as though they're innocents caught up in all this mess. They are complicit at best, and at worst, equally culpable for the ongoing issues within the Global South.
