Maybe for fixing this we should focus on dropping unnecessary crap from the Web, like 3 tons of JavaScript for which HTTP was never fully built for, push towards self-hosting on efficient hardware which we have access at home, and block mining cryptocurrencies forever, plus block whole Web3. Then we will be in much better shape. Best would be to have small home servers hosting simple websites on solar-powered hardware ;) EDIT: Additionally, we should push towards ActivityPub-based web services, like Mastodon, Pixelfed or Peertube

@darylphuah Depends, on surface - yes, but if you take into account that you can run your low power server using netbook/terminal/SBC even from solar panel, hosting @ home wins :)

@darylphuah Yes, I took, and they usually don't take that much of a power if you use a simple domestic router flashed with OpenWRT ;) Hard time competing with power hungry machines hosting thousands of websites and other weird stuff lying around the internet, which consumes too much of resources than really should? I don't think so :).

@darylphuah 99% of websites which we have currently up and running take too much of resources, so if you want to make energy efficiency argument, first web needs to cut the bloat.
