Famous page on adding repositories is "Frankendebian" - adding ubuntu ppa's to Debian Then, people build stuff from source, so they fall into another issue, but I have a fix for that - whenether you can, use custom prefix in your home. I like to use $HOME/.local/apps and build from source w/o installation as root. Best of both worlds.
