  1. Everything is fixable, you know? Snaps, flatpaks etc have their merits. Auto-updatability is great for less tech-savvy people and allows usage of slightly older base as distroebacuse you can use fresh web browser with strict confinement, which is nowadays crucial, to secure your browser from every side. For steam, it's better to use flatpak for now, but even that might result in dropping few frames, but setup rains at least resemblance of security.

  4.  @kpcraftster6580  Let's say I've seen good rust based projects and more the better. Having one bad fruit in that vast different basket does not mean whole basket is bad. I'd propose you to write some rust lines yourself, read what it wants to solve, learn few more languages like Nim, Zig, Go, OCaml (which was used to build first rust compiler BTW), instead of just blindly trusting language which is not even a language today, mere interface between languages, which cannot decide on size of numeric values, riddled with crazy workarounds, warying between compilers and more just to use it without shooting yourself in the foot with something slightly more complex than printing hello world to the screen :)

  6. And snaps - they bring compatibility layer for software, regardless of distro.

  7. Flatpaks take away performance too, my friendo. Yet their confinement model is somehow worse. They take slightly less performance hit than snap, but snap have better control over it. You can't have both security and performance :)

  8. Slackware. And if you don't mind snaps, Ubuntu. Scolding hot take - Ubuntu with snap is not bad. They ditch deb so much that they adopted deb822 format for repositories. They fix 3rd party install of deb using their over app centre. Fixing other things. Out of those 3 big companies, Canonical seems most level headed. Another one: Debian is not great - they don't respect will of developers, check xscreensaver issue. Additionally, they broke keepassxc package in repository.
