  1. Consider how seismically active Japan is though….if they had built in stone it would be rubble. Wood structure are more resilient to movement.

  2.  @Liethen  not nearly as much…on a global seismic hazard map Greece and Italy are pale green to yellow, southern Japan is dark red. They are not even in the same ballpark.

  4. If you think about it, it’s weird that it’s fringe….the folks who crossed didn’t do so without bringing any culture with them….so obviously there would have to be a shared precursor. Academics are weird…
