If you are really interested in other views, then, as someone who lived in Russia for 15 years, I can tell you that it looks very different there. The UK has not been invaded for a thousand years, there has been very little serious violence since the civil war, over 400 years ago. Russia has been invaded by the French, and then by the Germans. They lost around 23 million citizens, every family lost someone. Russia has to defend the longest land border of any country in the world. America (by far the most important member of NATO) has no hostile neighbours and therefore no need to constantly defend its borders. NATO has tried to, and continues to try to surround Russia.

What NATO says, in its self description, and what NATO does, and it's members try to do, are not the same.

I favour any leaders who will strengthen Europe and weaken the American attempts to dominate.

@tim3440 Ever since WW2, the US has tried to dominate the world order. Your references to international affairs illustrate that excellently. The US or China is simply a false dichotomy. We can ALL to much better by working together, no one needs to dominate. NATO, which is controlled by the US, is out of date and only causing trouble between Russia and its neighbours. (With due respect, I doubt if you have lived there and come to understand a different, non-western point of view.)

@tim3440 Your reply is interesting, but has nothing at all to do with my comment.

@tim3440 Somehow I think US domination won't help. Europe has to solve it's own problems.

@Karim94222 It upsets you to see China no longer kow-towing to the west. Why does the US think it has any right to interfere in affairs on the other side of the world?

@view1st I dont know where you get your history from. William of Orange, a relatively minor prince, by European standards, was invited to reign, as a constitutional monarch, in order to try to avoid more religious riots Britain. He came just with his personal ontourage, no invading army. He was indeed involved in Ireland, but I referred to mainland Britain.

If the ruling party in Hungry is so criticised for controlling the media, why is is OK for all the mainstream the media in the UK to be controlled by the current ruling party?

I don't particularly like Macron, but he is certainly the best presidential candidate. His ideas for a Euro-centred Europe certainly appeal to me.

You made the point that the US has nukes in 5 countries outside its own borders while Russia has none. So, if you are actually interested in reducing military tension, Putin's demand is totally reasonable and obvious. You simply ignored Bush's deployment of missiles in Poland, completely violating the agreement with Gorbachev for NATO not to do so in the former Soviet republics. If you want TLDR to be a respected channel, try to be neutral, rather than simply trotting out the usual propaganda.

As someone who lived in Russia for many years, much of this account is probably correct, but predicting what might happen in Russia is a fool’s game. Don’t underestimate Putin, he does make some poor judgements sometimes, but he is very smart and popular. Nothing is Russia is quite what it seems.
2
If membership of the EU continues to be a conduit through which NATO expands, the Russians will definitely obstruct any attempt by Georgia to join.

The hypocrisy of your defence of NATO is truly staggering!

“Not yet” If you know anything about Russians, Ukrainians should be extremely worried..

Apple just want to be the kings. They have more than enough cash to accept this directive.
1
Of course we all want to see a nuclear free world, but we have to start from where we are.
1
@tim3440 Competition occurs when there is perceived to be scare resources. Human beings have survived, and become the dominant species because we have cooperated.

The significant factor here is that IF the report of this aircraft being shot down is true, and Putin is unable to prosecute those responsible, then he is indeed in a dangerous position. But, as I know from experience of living in Russia, BBC reports are sometime completely inaccurate.

The Soviet Union dissolved over 30 years ago, but perhaps TLDR hasn’t heard of that yet. Modern Russia has no interest in invading Finland, as long as the US (calling itself NATO) poses no threat there. The US has currently 873 military bases outside its own borders, many in countries bordering or close to Russia, which has … just 2 foreign bases.
1
The US push to get their (NATO) missiles onto the Russian border in Ukraine, caused war in Ukraine. Do the Finns want war in their country? Do the Swedes want their economy destroyed? Of course the US will continue to arm-twist, but hopefully the Europeans have now learned that the US is only interested in the US. For them, Europe is just a convenient parking lot for their missiles.

Erdulan is a cunning politician so take his words with a large pinch of salt. But yes, it is time to revise the current agreement, and give Turkey its due financial rewards and some say in who can sail through its territorial waters. I can't see the UK agreeing to similar access to the Solent, or the US allowing free uncontrolled passage through Panama (even though it isn't their country). Egypt earns money from Suez.

Anything is better than football!

Maybe the Irish have enough common sense not to become another US poodle, like the UK, the Germans etc.
1
Lucky France, they have a history of reform, unlike Blighty-in-the-mud. George Bernard Shaw said in 1934 that the British parliamentary system was “only 300 years out of date”.

We have one type of gas filler, so why not a standard electronic connector - and a standard for charging electric vehicles.

So unlike the dead system in Britain.

He sounds neatly as dishonest as the Tories.
