  1. As someone who lived in Russia for many years, much of this account is probably correct, but predicting what might happen in Russia is a fool’s game. Don’t underestimate Putin, he does make some poor judgements sometimes, but he is very smart and popular. Nothing is Russia is quite what it seems.

  2. The significant factor here is that IF the report of this aircraft being shot down is true, and Putin is unable to prosecute those responsible, then he is indeed in a dangerous position. But, as I know from experience of living in Russia, BBC reports are sometime completely inaccurate.
