It could be argued that as with roads, the use of the track should be paid by a reasonable, predictable tax to the train operator, but this does not resolve the questions of confusing ticketing, and subsidising small but essential branch lines and stations. Renationalisation of the entire system is essential. Let the new, publicly own BR learn from the improvements brought in by private companies, and provide the best possible Public Service.
