  1. Scotland does not want to be estranged from Europe. In the short term, independence will probably be costly and uncomfortable but soon Scotland can follow the Nordic models and apply to re enter the EU. Independent Scotland will benefit England, which will not have to provide subsidies, Scotland can have the cheapest, greenest electricity in Europe and policies can be tried out in Scotland which the English might see as beneficial. We already have free university tuition, better care homes and we pioneered free bus passes for the elderly. A federation of mutually respectful British nations might work, so long as England doesn’t try to dominate.
