  1. Having seen the huge arrangement of deck cargo on container ships, would it be possible to construct car carriers with lower freeboard and a deck “cabin” structure for EVs, on an insulated deck? (NASA knows a lot about insulation.) This could allow much greater use of water to contain fire, with water allowed to run off the deck. Isolation & insulation of the two types of vehicle is surely an obvious first step.

  2. Delaying departure isn’t going to prevent fire once the ship is loaded. It might protect the crew, but it seems to me that there needs to be research on how to extinguish Li-io fires, what safe chemicals can be used?
