After perestroika, there was a tacit agreement that NATO would not advance eastwards close to the Russian border, but Bush ignored this and installed missiles in Poland. We remember how the US reacted to just the possibility of missiles in Cuba. Putin explained in 2014 that Russia needed neutral buffer states for its security, but the US (steering NATO) set about arming Ukraine, pushing for it to join NATO so they could plant missiles right on the Russian border. Putin warned that this was not acceptable, so the US continued to push until they got what they wanted, a war against Russia, far away from the US, with no US soldiers involved. This was/is an act of pure, absolute malice. Zelensky is just a puppet who will be thrown away when he’s no longer useful.
