  1. there was a smaller company in our town... a couple of hundred workers. They had a union and when it was time to renew the contract, they demanded higher wages. The company said they couldn't afford it. The union went out on strike...the company still said they couldn't afford it, and showed the union bosses and negotiators the books. The union insisted that the books had been cooked, and kept their workers out. A couple of months later, the company went bankrupt and the building and machinery were sold. All the jobs were gone, of course...
