@lockandloadlikehell I agree the 1619 project is garbage. She might be ok as a journalist, but she's definitely not qualified to be a historian.

@AM-qm4vc I will agree that some history books whitewash history and are biased. However, a true historian researches their subject through multiple first person accounts. There is plenty of writings from our Founding Father's and past President's. There are also journals from Revolutionary War/Civil War soldiers that have first person accounts of events. There are writings from the journalists and authors that have detailed information. True historians use these sources to depict an accurate description of American history. I taught history in elementary school. Those books have a watered-down account, but middle school and high school have much more of the graphic ugly details of American history. College American History has much more details and a good college professor will take students on an in depth study of history. I'm not saying there aren't bad teachers or school districts that don't teach or have horrible curriculum. However, I have worked in two different states and taught a wide range from elementary to high school. I personally believe that the schools I have taught in have had decent history curriculum for students. I don't believe that the 1619 Project gives an accurate description of the Revolutionary War and why the colonists wanted their freedom from England. That's why it shouldn't be taught in schools unless it is revised.

@AM-qm4vc I agree everyone should be able to express their viewpoint, but that viewpoint shouldn't be taught as fact. According to educationnext.org and k-12dive.com the 1619 Project is being taught in schools.

@AM-qm4vc I prefer the truth too. However, The New York Times and Ms. Jones were confronted with the factual inaccuracies of the 1619 Project. They ignored the historians and kept the inaccurate parts. If those parts are taught with context and presented as only the author's point of view, I'm ok with differing points of view as long as they all get to be explored.
