@weottjb I mostly consider myself a republican too. Although I have voted for democrats in the past. I truly hope more people come together and have civil conversations. That is truly lacking in today's society. Hope you stay safe out there as well.

@weottjb True Socialism is dividing everything a country has business, food, production, money, etc. equally among all people. No one gets more or less than anyone else. Therefore, the $1200 check that has been referred to is not a Socialist program. Everyone in America did not receive the $1200. Other programs in America police, fire, roads are not Socialist because they don't all receive the same amount of money.

@weottjb Socialism is a form of government in which most forms of property, including at least the major means of production and natural resources, are owned or controlled by the state. The aim of public ownership is to ensure that production is responsive to the needs and desires of the general population and that goods and services are distributed equitably. Oh wow, look it says "goods and services are distributed equitably." This is the definition of socialism. Sorry if it doesn't fit your narrative.

@weottjb We don't have "Socialist" programs. You are mixing or confusing Social and Socialist. America has Social programs. We are capitalist. Socialist governments are not capitalist. Yes I agree there are different types of socialism but America doesn't have Socialist programs.

@weottjb I am not trying to push any false narrative that Biden or democrats are Socialist. Bernie Sanders is the only one who has identified himself as a Democratic Socialist. The difference in social versus socialist is in the form of government. In America we have a capitalist monetary system. Our government doesn't control the means of production or the distribution of goods and services. I know the difference between socialist and social.

@weottjb You are right America is not a purely capitalist country. In my opinion you are still confusing social programs and Socialist or Socialism. Socialist countries do not have taxes because they control the means of production. Socialist countries don't have a stock market. Socialist countries for the most part dont have private ownership of business or property. America has taxes, private ownership of business and property. Does America have too many social programs? Maybe, but in my opinion social programs are different and not socialist in nature.

First name Last name That is your opinion but I see you don't offer any evidence or debate for your opinion.

@weottjb Thank you for the civil and friendly debate.

@weottjb I do agree (which I said before) that there are different types of socialism. However, socialism by its very nature of giving things to people that haven't worked them limits freedom or liberty. The government regulates or restricts freedom even in a democratic socialist society. Therefore our Constitution which guarantees liberty cannot be socialist in nature.

@weottjb True, I see your point. There is a grey area. Are we socialist? No, I don't think so either and I sincerely hope America never goes there.

dru jonsun Social Security is not a "social" program. In order to get Social Security benefits you have to have paid into the program and have a required amount of credits. This doesn't include SSDI.
