@trentjacobs3957 Strom Thurmond was the only one who actually switched. There may have been some lesser known people at the local level, but most remained loyal to the democratic party. The democrats love to conflate the "party switch" lie to make themselves feel better about their bigotry. What I don't understand is how more people don't see it for what it is. The historical data doesn't lie.

@domhnall777 The southern strategy was political. However, it wasn't successful because the democrats controlled governorship and state legislatures in southern states into the 90's. Georgia didn't reliably vote republicans into office until the 2000's. North Carolina historical voting data 37 democrat governor's to 7 republican governor's. South Carolina 49 democrat governor's to 9 republicans. Mississippi was democrat controlled from 1882-1992. In the 60's the Democrat Party held every Senate seat south of the Mason Dixon line. This debunks the party switch myth created by the democrats. They fooled you all by looking at a few presidential elections.

@domhnall777 Yes, that's got nothing to do with the "party switch" myth. The minority vote went to the Democrat Party in the 30's with FDR.

@domhnall777 Oh please that is a very small percentage of people who might vote republican. I live in the south Confederate flags have been a part of the south since the Civil War. I'll admit I don't know what the fascination is with that flag, but not everyone living in the south is flying the Confederate flag. There are far more American flags flying in front yards, on trucks/cars/motorcycles etc.

@domhnall777 True, I don't understand everything about the south. I was not borne here so I don't have a deep connection with family etc.
