@mars353 those who participate in a crime are called accessories, and are just as guilty. Mercenaries are categorized as criminals, their actions are not noble ones, but for selfish gain, guns for hire. Therefore, regardless of the depth of involvement in a war they entered in, the death penalty is warranted per laws of the country they are fighting against.
