  1. Fun fact: The Ellicott family kept many of Banniker's items for centuries in Ellicott City Maryland. In around 1960, the family wanted to get rid of these items in an auction. A black church organized funds to purchase these items for a small museum for Banneker. The day of the auction, a stranger from New York arrived at the auction and outbid the church and bought every item belonging to banniker, then he returned to New york. To this day, no one knows who this strange man was or why he came out of the blue to retrieve these items. We will never see these historical items again.
