If Russia did it NATO said they were ready to act and declare that was and act of war against NATO territory. Russia still wants to do business with the ungrateful Europeans. However, cutting of the tap at the source would be what they would do and had already done. The EU and America is just covering for the USA who said they would get rid of the gas lines, and who have gained all of Europe gas markets and ultimately all of Europe's manufacturing industries, taking away Russia's natural European markets.
