  44. The Nigerian president Tinubi is still in the courts in Nigeria contesting his questionable elections. Less than 30% of the electorate voted for him. Instead of the ECOWAS leaders refrain from electing him, their chairperson. Due to this, they rushed to appoint him and sidestepped their usual policy of appointing a chairperson on a rotation basis. Clearly, his appointment was political due to Nigeria having the money and military to be a blunt to any coup in the region. In addition, the West miscalculated. The West overlooked the geopolitical repercussions regarding Nigeria. At this point in time, the Northern states in Nigeria do not want to go to war with Niger as they see them as brothers due to the fact they border Niger and are the same people. Northern states will not support their government going to war with Niger. They say that the president first duty is to Nigeria and not ecowas. They say a watt will affect them disastrously and destabilize the region, having bokoharam take hold on their border. In addition, Niger has a partnership with Nigeria to both combat Bokoharam and robbers that plague them both. The people in Nigeria are severely criticizing their President's heavy handedness and state he has not even organized his new government to make informed decisions. He took away the electricity they provided to Niger and ignored a treaty brokered in the 1970S, which Niger agreed not to dawn the Niger river, which provides the water to Nigerian power plant. Tinubi is not qualified nor prepared to chair ecowas nor Nigerian government.
