"When I was the mayor of Mississauga I had to balance my budget"--- yes because by law cities in Ontario (and I believe Canada) are not allowed to have a deficit budget like the provincial or federal levels of govt. By law a city cannot run a deficit. Mississauga however is facing a $12B infrastructure planning deficit and will need to find a way to cut $44M out of the budget in order to balance their budget or raise taxes. Crombie is not a "hero" by balancing the budget she had to by law. If there was no law to balance the budget she would have run up massive deficits the same way she will if she were ever voted as Premier. And she will hike up your taxes to pay for waste the same way she did as mayor
