  1. I always thought the movie Das Boot gave the best idea of what life in a German U-boat was like. It had it's pluses but when you weren't bored out of your mind, eating food you wouldn't even give to your dog, and sharing a bed with your crewman who haven't bathed since you left port then you were scared out of your mind praying to God or whoever that you don't get depth charged.
