  12. In an emergency you call the ambulance and they come to you. You don't have to be half dead, like in the UK. It is enough for a kid to have a fever of 39.0 C and they will come in 20 min and give treatment to your child. GPs walk on home visits - well, in the UK when my kid had a fever of 41.4 C, my GP refused to do a home visit. When , after Russia, we came to the UK and met with waiting times - we thought we moved to some rural Africa.

  25.  @agathachristie8064  For a Polish person Russian language is very close, basically you can start reading and guessing the meaning, without even learning. It is just the alphabet to learn, the structure of both languages is very similar, the pronunciation is the same. Many Russians have Polish blood. You won't be feeling "out".

  28. I have 30 y difference in age if my eldest and my youngest. Comparing the schools then and now in the same town already creates shock, how different (worse!) the school situation became. One of the reasons seems to be that the new definition of disability ( persistent problems every day, as opposed to real illness) made all badly behaving kids subject to protection from any discipline at school. Teachers are scared of " discriminating".

  32. a little correection: there was no stagnation and no oppression, we could criticise the soviet government far easier than we can say that there are two genders in the UK. Talented kids had amazing opportunities unheard on in the UK. The goal of education was knowledge not babysitting. Please separate brainwashed thinking about USSR from the real USSR.
