In mainland China those who control the two major rivers , The Yangtze and The Yellow , especially the Yangtze , would eventually rule whole of China. and funny fact, this the same in India where for a majority of our history , Kingdoms who have control over the Ganga and Indus river would go on to carve some of the largest empires in History. That also goes same for Ahoms (but with Brahmaputra) and Cholas (but with Kauveri ) , Satvahanas (Narmada and Tapi) and some others like Gajapatis ( Godavari and Mahanadi) The only two empires who would not fall under this criteria were the Rashtrakutas and The Marathas who didn't have any major adjacent rivers at all.
