If you are that interested in Indian military history ( particularly the one post Independence ) , Just look at the case of FV433 Abbot bought by Indian army & how they stripped the Abbot of it's most important user friendly components just so that they could buy it cheap . The article is there in Tanks Encyclopedia

@rajbiswas9077 L1A1 itself is a licensed variant of Belgian FN FAL , SO technically we copied the copywork
11
Also that was the 50s & 60s & the time when India still hasn't gotten rid of old economic practices & was borderline socialist ( & heck poor as well )
10
@workingguy-OU812 depends . because people here misuse things more than they put on for intended use . also it's a taboo from the past to not give weapons to civilians . That is changing slowly in J&K , Himachal , Punjab & Manipur tho

Meanwhile kindergardens in Ohio are in possession of nuckear reactors

@wytfish4855 Irony because when anglos are on the receiving end of racism , they cry about it but when not they tell us to keep quiet about this

@Zfickoff Relax bruv . Also I am thinking if we can fund Ian's Trip to India during DEFEXPO ( my country's largest Arms exhibition + Presentation , something like Shotshow but much much Bigger )

1 & 1A for sure ( ones with Orange Handguards ) Not the 1B , 1B1 & Excalibur ( one with Black polymer handguards & folding stocks ) Also 1C is the latest version that has the milled receiver instead of stamped sheet receiver

Have you guys heard of the Spanish WW2 Era ALFA 44 Machine gun? It also has a 7.62×51mm variant called the M55. Used by both Spain and Egypt. Also few captured by Israel.

Wanna try country made .303 katta

Underrated Names of the History :- Enfielausers Mausenfield R-lee

Also Indian OFB did copy the AK ( search for Ghatak & Trichy assault rifle ) , but it is too late move ( should have done in the 60s or 70s itself , heck even in the 80s ) ?

Another masterpiece of South African wakandan based tech

I want to pay , unfortunately in my nation , it's really difficult to get a mastercard or visa compared to domestic bank accounts.

The Sumitomo NTK-62 (62式7.62mm機関銃, Rokuni-shiki Nana-ten-rokuni-miri Kikanjū) is the standard issue general-purpose machine gun of the Japan Self-Defense Forces, known as the Type 62 GPMG. It was developed as a domestic and more modern weapon to replace the US Browning M1919A4 in Japanese service. The design may have been inspired by the contemporary Belgian FN MAG, but it differs in various areas. The Type 62 is a belt-fed general purpose machine gun with a quick change barrel. It gas operated and uses a long stroke gas piston. Iron sights and a wooden buttstock are fitted. A highly modified coaxial machine gun variant exists and is known as the Type 74. The Type 62 fires the 7.62x51mm NATO rounds at a cyclic rate of fire of 550 to 650 rpm. The maximum effective range is quoted as 800 m prone, 1.2 km from a tripod and 1.5 km when pintle mounted. The Type 62 uses NATO standard full power rounds, whereas the Japanese Type 64 battle rifle uses reduced load rounds. The Type 62 general purpose machine gun is only used by Japan and has never been exported. In infantry platoons each Type 62 was supplemented and replaced by two of the lighter 5.56mm FN Minimi machine guns. The Type 62 remains in use on tripods and pintle mounts

This is the standard LMG for Colombian Military and now supplemented by more advanced IMI Negev.

The problem arise not with performance but with the change in the type of warfare Indian army faced . They went from a Conventional style fighting doctrine of the 50s-60s-70s to facing a more Asymetrix , unhinged & unpredictable warfare against proxies , terrorists , separatists & even special forces who were armed with fully automatic / select fire intermediate cartridges ( AK-47 / type-56 in particular ) & were heavily located in either cities or thick jungles . The 1A1 SLR proved too much of an overkill with heavy recoil & bulky stature ( large barrel & non folding buttstock ) while the STENs & Sterlings 9 X 19 mm proved inadequate against the AK-47s & M-16s used by Enemies , both in Range & penetration + devastation effect

Cuba wasn't the only communist nation that ended up with FAL. Nicaragua under Sadnista regime also had a lot of FN FALs , M16s , HK G3s etc .
3
@rajbiswas9077 Indian SLR also has very minimal performance related issues . only problem was the user friendly issue because since 80s , Indian army has been facing asymmetrical warfare that involves Urban & Jungle CQC + CQB & intermediate cartridge select fire carbines / assault rifles ( The FAL wasn't suitable for this & OFB Babus were not innovative enough to make a PARA FAL version with short barrel & folding stock )

@boomerisadog3899 they are still like the Japanese. Sumitimo NKT 62 is the equivalent of FN MAG and shares the same relation that the Type 96 and 99 shared with the Bren and ZB Vz 26 and the French FM 24/29 . minebea PM 09 is based on Uzi copy. Howa Type 89 is the evolution of AR-18 . Howa Type 64 is based on earlier FN FAL Prototypes with Japanese modification and features borrowed from AR-10 Early models. Type 90 Kyu Maru is the Autoloader lightweight Hydraulic version of Leopard 2A4. Type 60 and to an extent Type 74 APC is in influence from M75 APC and M47/48 patton based type 61 medium tank. Type 74 SPH is based on M108 Howitzer and Abbot SPG (Similar ,but not copied, although more traits are borrowed from M108 SPH) , type 75 SPH is almost an identical copy to M109 Paladin... except for the Turret. Mitsubishi T1 and T2 are based on SEPECAT Jaguar modification. Same Goes for South Koreans too. But except for the K1/88 Abrams part , rest are almost made by South Koreans.

I hope Ian will also look out for Spanish Alfa M44 GPMG.
2
South Africa is the True Wakanda
2
Super south african weapons
2
You forgot DP-27 and early version of RP-46, which were belt fed convertibles of DP-27. Coz DP-28 got the short stroke changed to long stroke and also the later versions of RP-46 too.
2
@SouthLondonForever just like the persian derived Hindustani / urdu term shahenshah or badshah ( chief among shah's )
2
Why Does it look to me an American cousin of Gwehr 81
2

@juleshales8881 INSAS LMG & Bren Both are getting replaced by NEGEV NG5 & NG7 ( NG-5 in 5.56 x 45mm & NG-7 in 7.62 x 51mm ) . Also OFB this time came up with an indigenious MAG-58 inspired GPMG chambered in 7.62 x 51mm & slightly lighter than the MAG-58 ( because of Lighter alloy )
2
Auto Malaria lol. That's how I speak Oto Melaria.
2
Spain also had a GPMG , The ALFA M44 chambered in usual 7.92*57mm and then a M55 Variant , which was chambered in 7.62*51mm NATO. M44 variant saw service in the Egyptian army in both the Suez crisis and the Six day war.
2
@JosephDawson1986 Japanese weapon never had any quality issues with them even in 1944. Some of the finest infantry LMGs and rifles of WW2 were from Japan.
2
@Drownedinblood They want to be like China but can't pull heists like China . IDK Why ?
2
@sarath431 FN CAl got nothing to do with this , but FN FNC does , since INSAS would borrow the Handguard design from the FNC . But INSAS is the primary blend between AK & HK
2
@sarath431 HK G3 or more closely related , HK 33 . INSAS is the Hybrid of an AK Styled Rifle ( from both AK & Galil ) & H&K HK33
2
@sarath431 H&K HK33
2
That's his reflection.....*bruh*
2
Waiting for Ian to make a video on Indian Ishapore 1A1 SLR ( unlicensed Copy of L1A1 SLR , which itself is a licensed version of FN FAL )
