Living in Brasil off and on since 2001
Brasil has all extremes, snow and freezing weather ; the south is like Europe (Italians and Germans- who speak their native language on the street) and the north, places like Maceio, Recife or Fortaleza. Warm all the time, great beaches and friendly people.
Try to overlay Brasil on the US, it's as big and has about a 6,000 mile Atlantic coast
The food is a lot like in the US but certain areas have their local cuisine too - Salvador, Recife, Blumenau, RIO etc.
NO WAY MEXICO even comes close to Brasil ; ugly food, too much crime, NO THANKS
ONE THING you guys got totally right, get the hell out of the US now. It's a cesspool of psychopaths and lunatics and will only get worse.
I own my condo and live on $500 a month - in the safest city in the south. But also have lived in the north too with no problems.
A furnished 1br apto in most places, even a block from the ocean will run you from $300-500 a month.

The reason for the sharks ;
Years ago they built a large port - SUAPE, just south of Recife
They had to remove all the mangroves that was the habitat of the sharks
So, the sharks had to move to another location and they chose the Boa Viagem area
YES the metro is rough but it works ! Goes through many POOR area into downtown- another poor area. Those apto buildings are very rough unpainted but they are nice inside
Does go south to Guarapes - Condeias and Piedade - worth checking out, is calmer than Recife
Downtown best shopping is Boa Vista mall, not far from MARCO ZERO, tons of small family owned little restaurants with Chinese, Sushi, beef and fish. Great for things like all kinds of nuts and fruits too
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
2024 -- Your Boa Viagem apto looks nice, could not exactly locate it.
I can recommend the building California right off the beach in Boa Viagem for monthly rentals too, just ask anyone where is Califorina
Those rocks on the beach are down in the southern part of the beach near the Praca (square)- good area.
You went to the Recife mall, a popular mall in a poor area.
Downtown there is another poor mall called Boa Vista, I like this mall better because it has a lot of cheap restaurants, esp Chinese in the mall and on the street next to the mall.
Restaurants in Recife and the area are half the price of those in the south of Brasil - Florianopolis and the food is better too. The wages in Recife are half of those in the south
I used to go swimming near where you were on the beach, only up to my waist and never had a problem. Safer if you only wade into the water up to your knees, you can also lie down in shallow water safely.
Your last spot was downtown near the port of Recife. Is called MARCO ZERO
Has been developed and is currently undergoing MORE developement, with new aptos and restaurants too. Kind of a yuppie area with a lot of bars too
10 years ago there used to be a cop on every block on the beach but now crime is so much less you don't see them anymore. That sidewalk runs from up near the port to the southern area and is very walkable, has a bike lane too. Lot of activity there
Boa Viagem (boa - vee- ah-jem) - means= have a nice trip- is always hustling with people and is very safe

Well, in the south of Brasil, A LOT OF PEOPLE speak english or at least understand what you are saying, they may not be totally conversant. Less so in the north from Bahia north
Imagine there is a lot of english in Salvador
Brasil and the US culture is VERY SIMILIAR because Brasilians grew up with the same things people in the US did, like The Flintstones, Adams Family, Scoobydo and US movies.
The food in Brasil can be very regional BUT includes everything you have in the US ; Italian, Pizza, churrasco steak houses, rotisserie chicken, Chinese, Sushi etc.
You can rent in BR for as little as $250 furnished a month in most towns
You can buy a 1br apto in BR for $18,000 or a 2br for $21,000, believe it or not. Once you own something you can live on $500 a month total. Live like a Brasilian !
Sorry but MX food is horrible and ugly. Do I want to live off of tacos, hell no !
On the medical side, BR has free medical care SUS but a lot of time they are overloaded
I chose a private healthcare plan that has clinics all over Brasil, pay $5 a month and $6 to see a DR
You guys did a great job on MX and Brasil
Since you are filming from Brasil, I can assume you like Brasil better !
Welcome to my new country too, you did the right thing !
YES, get the hell out of the US as soon as you can, doesn't matter where you go
