What did the EU ever do for us? ......apart from access to the world's biggest single market.

richard blackwell Many publicans don't drink. As for parliamentary democracy, that's the British system. People elect their MPs.

richard blackwell The referendum didn't pick any particular version of Brexit.

fred smith Working class pople still live in London in what is left of social housing. You and your like always need immigrants to clean your houses and pick your vegetables. Do you think Brexiteers like Jacob Rees-Mogg is going to do that kind of work himself?
1
fred smith Of course, but UK could sell - can still sell, until Brexit - across the single market without tarriffs and under common standards and regulations. And it is the world's biggest single market: that fact, and the geographical proximity, explains why 44% of UK exports go to the EU27.

fred smith Social housing is not a hand-out and pays for itself over a period of time. It is cheaper than putting homeless people in bed and breakfast. It also helps create a more cohesive society - but then as a Thatcherite you no doubt think there is no such thing as society.
1
fred smith Of course trade will continue. It will just be slower and more expensive as a consequence of leaving the EU single market. Did the Brexiteers not mention that?
1
fred smith I was quoting Thatcher, not you. She said "There is no such thing as society." On social housing paying for itself, please consult any basic textbook on public economics.

@greeny202ab Surely Brexit was to stop immigration? Now you're saying it isn't?
1
@greeny202ab So Brexit will mean more immigration? What does "sensible immigration" mean? That if you shag Farage, Batten or Banks (all with immigrant wives) you can come to the UK?
1
@greeny202ab First of all, to take one example, the Middle East is extremely diverse (unlike Europe, where all pre-Christian religions were wiped out, the Middle East has a huge varietu of religions). Secondly, Britain has set its own immigration policy from India, Pakistan etc - this has nothing to do with the EU. You're either lying or ignorant.

Once 'no deal' is knocked out, there's still no majority for the deal, yet anyway. EU membership will be extended by suspending Article 50. But really, the EU27 have been trying to negotiate with the UK for two years - how much longer will this nonsense go on?
1
It's not Armaggedon. He'd better to be far more specific.

I suspect the Brexiteers know Corbyn is one of them. They still think the default position is leave without a deal. Nothing the EU27 can do about it, insane thought it clearly is.
