Atlanta once had, for a short while, an NHL team (The Flames). In college, I went to a number of games at the Omni. It seemed the highlight was halftime when the Zamboni came out and resurfaced the ice. There were also three public ice skating venues in Atlanta (The Omni International Hotel, Parkaire Mall, and Shenandoah at Newnan). Again, it was a highlight when the Zamboni would be brought out to resurface the ice. Sadly ice hockey did not catch in Atlanta (the only sporting events more poorly attended were the Braves games of that same era). The Flames departed for Calgary. The Omni International became CNN Center. Shenandoah (a solar powered rink) failed because it was ahead of its time. It was a great place for a date, though! Thanks for bringing back some great memories... and teaching me how that great Zamboni operates.
