The problem is that this bill removes the legal process for deportation of failed asylum seekers because their case is never heard. This breaks international law and breaking international law comes with trade and economic sanctions. On top of that because the legal process is not being followed, there is nowhere the UK can deport them to, they have no ability to send them back to France or any other country.

@NotYourAvgJoe24 There's the problem. International law states that their case must be tried first and that the method of entry in to the country must not be a consideration. This bill prevents their case ever being tried so there is no legal way to deport them anyway. The Rwanda policy is dead for pretty much the same reason.

@quillo2747 No, but the International refugee convention that Britain is signed up to and was a major party in creating states that refugees may enter a country by irregular or illegal means as long as they then enter that countries asylum process. The method of entry must not be a consideration in that claim. In fact, it is more illegal for refugees to enter the UK via the eurostar or an airline because most don't have documents what with them being difficult to obtain in war zones or dictatorships.

@quillo2747 How many of those Albanians are rejected in their asylum claim. 20% is roughly the amount of asylum claimants rejected overall

@sagwan-square They get hidden if reported until they are assessed although that generally takes 3-4 months

@quillo2747 What figures have you seen that suggest the majority are from Albania? The governments own data suggests that is not true.

@mr.gilbert5412 I think they can manage sanctions against more than one country. They haven't introduced any new ones against Russia in months and no more are planned

Parliament can't change international law. Incidentally it breaks an international law which Churchill and the conservative party were instrumental in creating following WW2

This bill means there is no way for genuine refugees to claim asylum.

@quillo2747 It breaks the UN convention for refugees. There are now three possibilities, either the bill gets thrown out by the lords, it fails in the supreme court (most likely) or it is implemented and results in trade and economic sanctions
