  1. They don't deliberately design cars to be impossible to maintain/repair at home. I used to work in automotive design and the home mechanic was never a consideration one way or the other. We didn't make it easy for them and we didn't deliberately make it impossible for them. The buying public want higher performance and more tech at a lower cost. The regulators want lower emissions and more safety. The designers want their styling uncompromised and production want it easy to mass produce so you end up with a lot of stuff packed in to a small space and special tooling which favours the production line and hideously complex electronics from the cheapest factory in China. Even things like torx screws weren't introduced to make it difficult for DIY, they suit production lines better than other screws.

  3. The latest Royal Enfield 650 twins are really good. Build quality is as good as anything from Japan, the styling is fantastic and they ride brilliantly. Here in the UK, a Triumph T100 bonneville is £9k while an RE Interceptor is £5.5k and that is an enormous saving for a bike that is 90% as good.
