  1. Those at the top don't need to be experts in anything other than management BUT they do need to have experts heading up technical departments. I work in a company which employs civil and mechanical engineers as well as scientists, architects as well as accountants and sales people etc. No single CEO can be an expert in all of those fields which is why they put experts at the head of each department and take their advice and under UK law, they are legally responsible if they don't take that advice. If they suddenly decide we can make foundation piles from plasticine and overrule everyone else then the CEO goes to prison when it fails and kills people
