@joh8379 Amazing debating skills, JoH - if you think he's wrong, tell him why - instead of repeating cliches that someone else has put in your head.

@JohnSmith-gd2fg Try to use critical thinking, John. (and I hope you have the attention span to read my entire comment here): you're listening to the same media that also told us Assad gassed his own people and Gaddafi was pulling babies out of incubators. Secondly: I've been following this conflict since 2014 (yes it didn't begin in Feb 2022) and the truth is the direct opposite of what you're being told. I bet you didn't even know that the actual conflict was between East and West Ukraine and it began when the elected govt of Ukraine was overthrown with the help of the US and then began attacking East Ukraine which is mainly ethnic Russian. In Feb this year they intensified shelling on East Ukraine and began amassing on the border to mount an invasion. This time East Ukraine had had enough and INVITED Russia in to help them end this once and for all. I bet you didn't know any of that stuff - but now you do: you would have known it already of you had done your own research instead of swallowing to proven liars are shoving down your gullet.

Russia didn't attack Ukraine. I've been following that conflict since 2014. It started with a coup that overthrew the elected govt of Ukraine - the coup was paid for by the US State dept with $5bn US tax dollars (Victoria Neuland admits it herself). The new far right govt (the Right Sector) then banned the Russian language and began mounting attacks on ethnic Russians in East Ukraine (which is mainly ethnic Russian) - these attacks escalated to pogroms and even massacres (none of which were reported by the bbc): a brief war started between East and West Ukraine. Russia urged East Ukraine to go for peace and a peace treaty with Kiev was signed (The Minsk Agreement): East Ukraine honoured it but Kiev went back to attacking East Ukraine and did it for 8 years, despite numerous DIPLOMATIC efforts by Russia to stop the attacks. Then in Feb this year Ukraine (Kiev) forces amassed on the border and intensified shelling on East Ukraine - they were getting ready to over-run East Ukraine, ands this time East Ukraine reacted and invited Russia in to help them end this once and for all. That's what happened.

True: and if the majority of people had those critical thinking skills we wouldn't be in the mess we're in now.
