  1. But tbh: it was the Ukraine forces that were preparing to invade East Ukraine: in February they intensified shelling of Donbas and began amassing on the border. They were getting ready to invade/overrun the East: that's the only reason Donbass mobilised and invited Russia in to help them push back.
