Not true. I knew a Colombian (former) investigative journalist who settled in Britain and he grew up with many people who joined FARC and he said they were all only in it for money.: and he was NOT pro government - in fact he was heading a team investigating govt corruption and suddenly his colleagues were all being killed (no doubt by govt forces) but the final straw for him was when FARC approached him and offered money for the dirt he had on govt officials: he said he would meet them (to buy some time) and he sought, and was granted asylum (he never handed over the documents). I asked him what would have happened if he had stayed and didn't hand over the documents: he told me FARC would have killed him. FARC were savages: their war was against land owners, not the govt: they began by murdering farmers who owned large farms and taking their property, they also made massive money out of drug trafficking and kidnapping. They carried out numerous massacres and the savagery they showed towards their kidnapping victims is legendary. Your immigrant friend was pro FARC - or he may have even been a member himself and fled the country after the party was over. If he is former FARC and won't admit it, you can be sure he has carried out some very, very dark deeds.

@jamesrevell6475 Brutal at times lol. I get the impression you read my comment but didn't absorb it. John was not biased: he grew up with these people, he knew exactly what they were all about, and he is a very honest, unbiased and principled person. Darren Stettner also grew up with them: he knows what he's talking about. And, no disrespect, but it sounds like you're jumping from point to point to try to prop up what you're saying. I will make one last point which I hope you will absorb. You spoke about MSM narrative as part of your point. Jimmy Dore is citing a New York Times article in this piece: the New York Times is endorsing and writing very positive things about this guy. I wonder why that would be. The New York Times. I have a few ideas, but time will tell - and I hope the Colombian people don't end up paying yet another heavy price for the chess games of others.

@james6401 True.

@darrenstettner5381 True. I've also replied to James Revell about the things a friend of mine who grew up in Colombia told me about FARC - and he told me pretty much exactly the same type of things you're mentioning.

@gladysdahmen7612 I agree. I can understand the optimism that people feel about him, even Jimmy who seems to be very well clued in about a lot of things. But for me - The New York Times' endorsement of this guy was enough for me. If WaPo has been making similar noises....yep.

@gladysdahmen7612 Thank you, Gladys.

Hold on, Jimmy. Was this guy former FARC? If so, this is not the victory for peace and affluence you may think. I see you citing The New York Times as writing a positive piece about him - and he's talking like an eu leader about green energy, here. Is none of this raising red flags for you?
