I admire the stance of the Spartans at Thermopylae: but I despise everything else about them: a parasite society that lived off the backs of Helot farmers - and made it compulsory for a spartan child to murder a Helot with his bare hands in order to qualify as a soldier - much like todays gangs initiate new recruits by sending them to murder innocent people.
