  1. That was a good answer. Some couples with kids seem to try that trick sometimes: they don't want to pay for the seat but figure they can guilt or shame other passengers into giving up their seats. I was on a 3+ hour flight once with a relative and a couple tried that with us, and got very cantankerous when we said we couldn't: they pushed it and they found out the hard way that my relative can be a very, very aggressive individual.
