In 2014 the State Dept spent $5billion dollars of US taxpayers' money overthrowing the democratically elected government of Ukraine and installing the Right Sector with Oligarch Poroshenko at it's helm. Shortly afterwards he banned the Russian language and his military began attacking the mainly ethnic Russian East Ukraine Donbass region: these attacks quickly escalated into massacres: Crimea quickly voted to rejoin the Russian federation (was not annexed, I need to correct you there) while Donetsk and Luhansk declared themselves as independent states and began to protect themselves militarily. The bloodshed that followed was so sickening that Poroshenko was voted out of office by the vast majority of Ukrainians and Zelensky was voted in on a mandate of normalising relations and enforcing the Minsk (peace) agreement. He did neither: his forces continued to attack East Ukraine despite numerous efforts by Russian diplomats to end hostilities and he even recently announced that he wanted nuclear weapons on his territory. Last week Ukraine forces began shelling the Donbass region and Russia and East Ukraine had finally had enough: Russia recognised Donetsk and Luhansk as independent states and was invited by them to help in the push back against Ukraine forces.
