  1. Russian troops were invited into East Ukraine, which is mainly ethnic Russian, after they faced 8 years of attacks and shelling at the hands of Kiev forces. Kiev forces began amassing o the border and shelling intensified in Feb 2022 - that's when east Ukraine asked Russia in to help them end this once and for all.
