All the EU countries have to do is set up 2 Gazprom accounts, pay Euros into one - Russia does the exchange for them, places the Roubles into the 2nd account, and the transaction would go ahead as normal. Only an EU politician could regard that as too much work.

@andreafalconiero9089 I agree: and the EU involved itself in an economic war with Russia in an attempt to destroy Russia's economy, so they will reap what they so. Also in their determination to view Putin as a low IQ knuckle dragging thug, they failed to learn that he himself is a qualified economist: he understood exactly what was going on and how to deal with it. The EU should count itself lucky that Russia didn't just turn the pipes off - that's what the EU would have done to Russia if the roles had been reversed.
