I like the idea of pretending we live in a simulation, as a psychological hack, but actually believing it seems too much like religion. The simulation metaphor is too obvious when our world is dominated by simulation machines. Like the brain/computer linkage, at some point it begins to look more useful to break the connection and decide instead that reality - or a brain - is just like a new, unfathomable technology that we haven't invented/discovered yet
