I live in Gander, Newfoundland, Canada. Our town was built so fighters and bombers could be flown by Ferry Command over to Britain. Back then we weren't yet part of Canada but were still a member of the British Empire. It was mostly RAF which flew them. https://www.gandercanada.com/en/explore/History.aspx#:~:text=On%20January%2011%2C%201938%2C%20Captain,Royal%20Air%20Force%20Ferry%20Command.
2
@justanothercaptain6566 I'm not sure who flew them around Canada but once they got here to Gander it was Ferry Command from then on. :-) http://www.ganderairporthistoricalsociety.org/_html_war/ferry_command.htm

Parchment paper, or vegetable parchment, is a cellulose-based composite that has been processed to give it additional properties like non-stickiness, grease resistance, and resistance to humidity. It is commonly used in baking as a disposable non-stick, grease resistant surface.

@cmonkey63 you are most welcome

Yes. She is pictured with Duke Kahanamoku, the finest athlete Hawaii has had. A surfer and multi Olympic gold medalist in swimming

What about combining the Dakotas, then splitting them into East and West Dakota along the river?

Our town of Gander was built to ferry fighters and bombers to Britain. It was the largest airport in the world at the time. A town's history that deserves to be remembered. https://www.gandercanada.com/en/explore/History.aspx#:~:text=On%20January%2011%2C%201938%2C%20Captain,Royal%20Air%20Force%20Ferry%20Command. From being the site of North America's only Commonwealth War Graves Commission Cemetery to finding its way into the complex and detailed culture of Star Trek to having the only Canadian dog to be awarded the Dickin Medal, the animal equivalent of the Victoria Cross to the sad loss of the American military personnel on Arrow Air Flight 1285, the deadliest aviation accident to occur on Canadian soil and the second-deadliest of any accident involving a DC-8, my little town has many interesting aspects to it. https://www.gandercanada.com/en/explore/InterestingFacts.aspx

@nordisk1874 yup. It could be that the partridge berries here in Newfoundland were mistaken for grapes but I think you're right, grapes only occur in New England and south

4.9 miles per second is orbital velocity. 12 miles a minute is 720 miles per hour. Jet speed. Seems reasonable to me.

80 years ago a message to the enemy was, "Go to hell" These days the message is, "Russian warship, go F*** yourself"

Perhaps that was the Aroostook War?

Before toilet paper, people mainly used whatever was free and readily available for personal hygiene. Unfortunately, many of the options were quite painful: Wood shavings, hay, rocks, corn cobs, shells, sand or clay and even frayed anchor cables. Ancient Romans used a sponge on a stick that sat in a bucket of salt water or vinegar and was shared by everyone (yuck). Leaves, moss and rags were some of the less-painful (and probably more sanitary) options. Wealthy people used wool, lace or other fabrics.

@DawnOldham aww, thx. You're so sweet

@stevedietrich8936 I suppose it's nit-picking to point out Red Wings are 2 words, not one, eh?
1
@stevedietrich8936 yeah. I shouldn't have. Can't critique her too harshly. Everyone makes mistakes

I've always heard of Washington D.C. refered to as 'the swamp' and 'draining the swamp'. Any validity to this? Loving your channel, a pleasure to watch during this zombie apocalypse. ❤
1
Yeah. I live in Gander. It was built as an inland airport safe from Nazi attack for Ferry Command to fly bombers to Britain
