Of course the major flaw with this system is trying to get an "over the phone" price. I have contacted many dealerships regarding many particular cars over the past 10 years and the standard answer on the phone is "price as listed". Once actually AT the dealership, you do have some bargaining leverage, but probably not nearly as much as before the internet age. A car salesman who is a friend told me that due to the competitive nature of the industry, coupled with the fact of online listings now, an internet listed price is almost always the best possible price. Otherwise dealers who marked up their internet advertised prices would suffer due to buyers simply not even considering them in the first place. This applies strictly to NEW car sales however as there are a multitude more variables with pre owned cars.
