I have to disagree on one point in the video. It's mentioned that Hetty's father said never to give anyone anything, even kindness. I read a 1930's biography of Hettie and it said that her father told her to never OWE anyone anything, not even a kindness. Though it was not with direct financial aid Hetty at times was very helpful to others.

Great comparison with the Collyers. I'm reminded somewhat of Mrs. Edith Beale and Miss Edith Beale who lived at Grey Gardens in the Hamptons.

You might be interested in the 1964 book "The Recluse of Herald Square -- the Mystery of Ida Wood" by Joseph A. Cox. Very good reading and much more information.

I don't know if it was used in prepration for this excellent video, but there's a very interesting book about Ida Wood called "The Recluse of Herald Square -- The Mystery of Ida Wood" by Joseph A. Cox and published in 1964. Recommended reading! --- Also, is the hotel still standing? It would be fun to visit the rooms where the ladies lived for so long and, according to the book, never got direct sunlight.

96 or 116, I hope I don't live anywhere near that long. -- Very interesting documentary. Does the house in which Mrs. Lewson lived still exist? Either way it would be interesting to see what is on that site now. --- It's been a while but I read a very good historical fiction novel called simply "Havisham" which is the story of Miss Havisham from "Great Expectations". Highly recommended!

@winros One died from boxes falling on him, the other died of starvation and dehydration. A horrible prolonged death.
