  1. I love ocean liners but I think it's time for the Queen to be scrapped and money used elsewhere. Ocean liners weren't built to last forever; sooner or later they wear out to the point where it's no longer reasonable to keep spending money on them. I've read that the Queen was purchased with the understanding that she would be a tourist attraction for around 50 years. That amount of time and then some has passed. The Queen Mary has served her purpose in the world and it appears that it's time for her to be scrapped after a great deal has been removed and repurposed.

  3. What with the Queen Mary being surrounded by a breakwater, I think it's called, and her size and condition, I'm wondering if the Queen Mary would be broken up where she is. From what I've heard and read over the years I don't think the Queen Mary could survive a trip to India. Too her engines no longer work to propel her so the liner would have to be towed. I figure that after paneling and art work and other items from the ship are removed and repurposed on-site demolition is the most effective arrangment. I've loved ocean liners ever since I saw "The Poseidon Adventure" in 1972 but I think it's time for the Queen Mary to go before something bad happens and for funds to be used for more immediate needs. I've read that the QM was to be a tourist attraction for about 50 years and she's been that for closer to 60 years.I also think there's no reason to keep the derelict S.S.United States afloat: I think scrapping or sinking to make her a reef would be the best arrangement.

  4. Somewhat off-topic, but my if memory is right, the Wayfarers Chapel mentioned here was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright and was where Jayne Mansfield and Mickey Hargitay were married in 1957. If someone knows more about this, please add a comment.
