  1. Many years ago I read a PEOPLE magazine interview with singer Dolly Parton when she was starting to become well-known even outside of country music. I've always remembered a comment Miss Parton made: "I don't drink nothin' but water". For Lent one year I drank no liquid but water and I lost three pounds in a week. I drink soft drinks only infrequently but had been drinking a lot of milk, plain or chocolate milk. I mentioned once to someone how my legs would make cracking noises when I stood up and I was told that I need to drink more water. Lately I've increased my water intake and I find that drinking water chilled in the refrigerator is more satisfying than water from the tap. I avoid ice water because it can be too much of a shock to the system.
