This reminds me of the house the now famous Collyer brothers lived in in New York City. After the brothers died in their hoard-filled mansion in 1947 and the house was being cleared, civil engineers said that the clearing out had to start at the top of the mansion because the trash on the lower floors was what was holding up the upper floors. The Collyer house had something like 130+ tons of trash and I wouldn't be surprised if Dale's house had the same amount of weight.

@HD-fd7tn I remember the episode featuring the ex-model. She had a very nice home but e ven in daylight rats were running around in the kitchen. The house was cleared out BUT...the daughter's boyfriend raised a good question about what was inside the walls. He and the pregnant daughter were to have moved into the house and I hope they didn't.

Great comments! I've lived with a hoarder who got violent and sometimes the path of least resistance is the lesser of two evils. Too when someone goes out to the trash to bring things back there's not much point in taking it out in the first place. If possible the best thing for the family member or partner or roommate to do is take themselves out from the hoarding situation but there are a lot of factors that may prevent that. Blessings to you for how you dealt with your home life and for the help you gave your parents.

That must be a fascinating job though I imagine it's probably also very challenging, frustrating and sad at times. I've thought about how I'd like to do what you do but I don't think I could deal with houses that have animal waste or dead animals in them or that have rodents running around. You provide an important service with your work.
