I've been thinking about the last sentence in your comment. If you need an object to have a memory maybe you could use a blank book or have a computer file in which you record the memory that goes with the object and then give the object away if there's no other reason for keeping it. Too I'd like to offer this idea: if you have to have an object or item to keep the memory associated with it, maybe that memory isn't so important anymore and it might be time to be more involved with the present and create new memories.

I remember seeing Miss Dickinson as a guest on "Larry King: Live". Mr. King asked Angie Dickinson if she would write her autobiography and she replied with an almost laugh, "I burned my diary years ago". Good for Angie Dickinson for how she chooses to keep her private life just that: private.

The documentary actually didn't make money.

I'm one of those slightly ambidextrous lefties: I had left-handed scissors but got accustomed to right-handed ones; I've always held a baseball bat right-handed; my handwriting leans right though occasionally I write back-handed with the writing leaning left. I've practiced writing right-handed after learning about how Nicole Kidman learned to write right-handed when she portrayed Virginia Woolf in "The Hours". In my workplace I noticed we had not only a significant number of left-handed men but of gay left-handed men. I also volunteered for a Red Cross Book Fair in my town and many of the Red Cross people, both staff and volunteers were left-handed.

With me it's books. I have the conflict of having so many books that they cause me stress but I really want to read them before I give them away---and I'm a slow reader! I've had some purges in the past when I gave away books I hadn't even read and once I started the process it wasn't all that difficult. I may be doing that again soon. Apart from books and having a lot of pens that I find at the university where I work I would be considered a minimalist.

If they're not text books the books you have in storage could go to library sales, thrift shops, fundraising book sales, Little Free Libraries. An earlier comment suggested selling the National Geographic magazines. Maybe you could get a small amount for certain issues but based on my experience of many years of working for Red Cross and library sales I would suggest just discarding or recycling the Geographics.

I don't know if this is quite a secret passageway, but I'm reminded of the movie "Rosemary's Baby" and of the linen closet at the end of the hallway going through Rosemary and Guy's apartment: the back of the closet was really a door into the hallway of Minnie and Roman's apartment. The two apartments had originally been one very large apartment that had been subdivided. Rosemary and Guy had the back half and their entrance door had originally been the back door/service door.
