Until I I started watching videos about "The Shining" I knew almost nothing about Stanley Kubrick but have learned that details are very important in his work and a big part of his work. In the early scenes in the Torrances' home there are a lot of books. Even when Wendy is talking with the doctor we see stacked-up books. I'd like to know what those books are. I suspect they were carefully chosen even though we just see them as part of the setting and background. I recall at one point early on we see Wendy reading a paperback copy of "The Catcher in the Rye" by J.D. Salinger. It would be very interesting to know why that particular book is shown in "The Shining". My recollection is that the Salinger novel is about a young man having a breakdown; maybe this connects with the breakdown of Jack Torrance?

Excellent point! I think what we're seeing are not uncharacteristic, isolated events but events that are part of ongoing behavior that finally got exposed.

My favorite: Fred Astaire and Lucille Bremer (sp?) in the "Coffee Time" dance number in the movie "Yolanda and the Thief" followed by the "Slewfoot" dance number with Fred Astaire and Leslie Caron in "Daddy Long Legs".
