I've been accepting the fact that I'm more vulnerable than I used to be: I'm now in my early 60's; I have arthritis in my knees and hips along with circulatory trouble in my right leg so I generally walk with a quad cane; if I tried to run I'd possibly just collapse. But...I do have a new can of pepper spray! Still it's good to just be aware of your surroundings and to plan ahead.

  11. With older buildings whose apartments have been gutted, I wish I could see what the original apartments were like. I don't mind something that isn't brand new and that looks like it's from another era. But all the apartments seen here, including Roberto's, were really nice.

  13. Great apartment overall but one small part is an issue for me: the stove is next to the wall and there is no tile above the stove as there is over the back of the counter area. Will there be food and grease stains on the wall next to the stove? Can you be comfortable cooking without some elbow room on either side of the stove? If you use the right-hand side burners that's a lot of heat only inches from the wall. Will the wall eventually be scorched?

  14.  @vicki8261  Well said. After the death of my mother (who I believe was worn to death) I had to put my brother who had Down Syndrome and dementia into a group home. I didn't want to do it, but his needs had become such that he needed a team of people to look after him around the clock. I helped my mother to help my brother, but when it was mainly myself and a little transportation help from a sibling, I couldn't do it. I was being worn out. I now see how the caregiver can be the one to die before the person receiving the care.

Cash, this may be a long shot but here goes: you talked about using the basement as a home office. Maybe you and your family could rent this apartment and you could operate your business from the basement? Whatever decision you make about the new office space, blessings to you in finding the right location.

  16. Both wonderful places. I lean more toward the second. I'd love to see the houses as they were when new. The probably had double parlors and servants quarters. These houses make me think of the stories and novels of Louis Auchincloss. He once wrote about being in real life in the home of a wealthy New York City family to meet a couple friends to go to a dance or some-such. The mother called up the stairs, "Don't forget your poils. goils!" ("...pearls, girls"). That New York accent originated from the wealthy Dutch and when New York was still Nieuw Amsterdam.

  17. This place is Wow City. Only drawbacks: I don't go for bathrooms that connect bedrooms; the privacy issue/possibility of someone walking in on you at an awkward moment. Also if the elevator is the only means of entering and exiting the apartment then the apartment is not for me because of fire safety/emergency issues. Too for an extra layer of protection I'd rather have an elevator that opens into a foyer or hallway, not right into my living space.

  18. All that long living room space: finally room to have all my boxed-up but as-yet-unread books out on shelves and organized! I have so little in the way linens that I could use some of the shelf space in the linen closet for books. Both apartments are great. I'm at a point in life where I no longer like the idea of living alone (age and health reasons) and the second apartment would be a great set-up for two people to be there but still have space and privacy. And with a sink sprayer and room for our shrines, who in their right MIND could possibly ask for more???

  19. Cash, you've turned me into a more discerning viewer. The first apartment is a dud. As Ilya mentioned below it's really a divided studio apartment. It's mostly better-than-nothing. The bedrooms are more sleeping compartments than bedrooms. For two people to live there and spend much time together it would be a strain. Second apartment: not bad! A huge improvement over the first.

  20. Cash, I have a question I hope you'll have time to anwer: Sometimes you show apartments that viewers suggest you and your family move into. If you did go to and found an apartment that would work for you and Mrs. Jordan and Violet, would you be allowed to rent that apartment yourself or would there be a conflict-of-interest rule or law that would keep you from renting one of the apartments you or your company handles?

I might be considered almost the opposite of you as I'm not an entrepeneur and I assume leadership when there is no one else to do it---and I've found I'm very good at it but don't have the natural inclination. Some people such as yourself are born "starters" and leaders and some such as myself are what I call strong followers---and there's room and need for both types. Thanks for sharing your experiences and outlooks, Cash. I think you and even I with our different approaches and strengths can help people figure what works best for them.

  24. Cash, you have my vote! Wonderful apartment and especially for people who enjoy doing a lot of entertaining. Great walk-in closets and so much can be done with the apartment: the room off the living area might be made into a home library or a studio for an artist. The windowless room could be a place for retreat and quiet. Someone is going to have a lot of enjoyment in living in this apartment.

  26. That bathroom was a major turn-off. It appears to be an extension of the bedroom and not a separate space. If a guest wanted to use the bathroom, they would have to close and lock the bedroom door to have any real privacy. A bathROOM is a separate ROOM. For me: no privacy, no deal.

  27. I ike the neighborhood but the apartment is not for me: I saw a LOT of wasted, empty vertical space; cubicles that pass for bedrooms and a major lack of closet space. A "bedroom" with a 17-foot ceiling? A cramped kitchen space that's almost if not two storeys high? Things are just not right with this apartment.

Also I have a kryptonite cable lock for my bicycle AND I sometimes put a kryptonite U-lock through the back wheel so the bike is locked twice. It may still get stolen but the thief is going to have to work for it!

  31. Maybe I'm too picky but I don't like how the windows or windowpanes are so small. You have a spectacular view but have to look at it through all those metal window frames. It's like looking through a cage. The rest of the apartment and building are wonderful. As a book lover it pleases me to to see places in the building that have so many books.

  32. My choice would be the second apartment. So much of the first apartment just looks out onto the deck and the deck is situated so that lots of people can see you out there. For someone who wants to grow flowers or grow fruits and vegetables to eat or to have both, the first apartment is a winner. I understand about waiting for the cake: here in mini-Manhattan/Bloomington, Indiana, I recently discovered the vegan blueberry muffins at a local food co-op. DEE-lishus!

  34. Both apartments are great. I'm not a fan of two-burner stoves but I've noticed I never use more than two anyway. Cash, you probably don't have time to read for enjoyment but I started a spooky novel that might be just right for you and your viewers: "The Graveyard Apartment" by Mariko Koike and translated from the Japanese to English by Deborah Boliver Boehm. A young couple in Tokyo along with their kindergarten-age daughter move into a new apartment building located next to a cemetery and strange things start to happen...

Doors like that remind me of the movie "Rosemary's Baby" in which the closet at the end of a hall had a door in the back that led into the next apartment.--- That first apartment that had the lock that had been tampered with: that told me all I would need to know about renting there: No!

  38. WOO-HOO! The neighborhood has Dunkin' Donuts AND Starbucks: a double-barrelled CASH BASH! Great apartment, great views though the bathrooms have mirrors over the toilets which gives the wrong kind of views if you get my drift. Just looking out the windows of these apartments and seeing the changing light and sky would be free entertainment. The lounge area looks great with all those books; find a book and a chair by the window and a good time is ahead.

  39. I was noticing how a wall had been inserted two-thirds of the way across the bay window. Sad that a room was divided that way. Ditto: I'd love to see how those older buildings looked before they were gutted and subdivided, the original features and fixtures. Even if the buildings were a little worn from years of use they would still have an individuality not seen in the newer or renovated spaces.

  41. Cash, this may help with your sock drawer: I fold over each pair of socks then put a rubber band around the socks. Another method is to tuck one sock inside another. I'm sort of color blind so I like to get socks with patterns or a logo; helps me see what goes with what.

That narrow space (laundry area) ending with a doorway into the next apartment reminds of how in "Rosemary's Baby"" the closet at the end of the hall had a door in the back that led into the next apartment. Something that was unclear to me: is the laundry area a shared space between the two bathrooms of the two apartments? Do the tenant of both apartments use the washer and drier?

  47. I've read Paco Underhill's books "Why We Buy" and "The Call of the Mall" and in one of them he talked about how men find a place to sit down while women shop! I've been along on some shopping expeditions and recommend having a book to read while you wait. You can tell that I grew up without computers and smart phones!

  48. Whew! Glad the fall wasn't worse, Cash.---Sounds odd but years ago Smithsonian magazine had an article about staircases which made me aware of what's safe and what isn't. The staircase here may look good to some people but I see a safety hazard. Good thing it has a metal railing. Getting furniture to the second room could be a problem.---Kitchen looks good but is impractical with cabinets far too high. With dishes etc. on the shelf it will look like a garage sale and items there will have to be cleaned periodically. Second bedroom needs cleaning or painting because you can see where the bed had been against the wall. Bathroom drawer makes me wonder what else may have been damaged or worked too hard. Some concerns and drawbacks but still a good place for the right people.

I have a hunch there's a lot of good free reading there. Looks like the buildings'version of the Little Free Library.---Off topic but I think that park area with benches along the walkway by the water was where a scene from "Prizzi's Honor" was filmed, one of the organized crime people meeting with the hit woman Irene (played by Kathleen Turner) to arrange for someone's murder.   50. I live in Bloomington, Indiana, a univeristy town with the university right in the middle of town. Rents of course are high and my landlord is a shark: not quite six weeks into my lease for my so-so efficiency apartment I got an email from the management company saying that people are interested in living here and that it might be good to renew my lease because if I don't the managment "may" start showing the apartment to someone else who will sign the lease. Not even six weeks into the lease... I understand that the owner wants to have as many people in here for as long as possible but this really going too far. A co-worker of mine who has a background in real estate said this is "...probably legal but highly unethical".

Don't ask me why but as I was watching I was reminded of the movie "The Sentinel" from the 1970's in which a young woman rents an apartment in New York and learns that the apartment is the gateway to Hell and that she is to watch over it. Ava Gardner played the leasing agent or broker. Cash, if there's ever a re-make of "The Sentinel" you should have a cameo role in the film as the person showing the apartment----and the name CASH JORDAN should have top billing in the opening credits with your name over the title. Seems perfectly logical to me!

I grew up in a rather large house, additions made over the years by preceding generations of my family, and now that I'm in the no-longer-young category and have arthritis and some heart trouble that family house would be far too much for me. One of these Japanese tiny homes would be great for me. I think I and many others would be able to live alone for longer times and with less need for assistance. One change I would need is a bed that's at a "regular" Western height because of the difficulty gettting to a standing position from at or near floor level. I'm going to be looking at my studio apartment in a different way.

  59. Mixed response for me: bedroom should have a full bath. The well or shaft of light and air is nice BUT...I think of how there could be a floor in there and at least one more room added to the apartment. There's a lot of space to heat and cool but that isn't being used. Not quite the apartment for me but someone is going to love living there.

For the work I do I prefer going to a designated, job-only workplace though a number of my co-workers are still working from home. I don't like the idea of my living space or my personal equipment being extensions of my workplace.

  72. The second apartment for me! The first one is nice but you can tell a room with a bay window has been divided in an odd way. Cash, that was one nice-looking pen you were using at 8:35. I'm glad to see that even though you're a computer/camera/technology person you were using a nice old-fashioned writing instrument. I looked several times and I think your pen is a ball-point or maybe a gel pen. Here a suggestion, Cash: When you reach 200, 000 subscribers maybe buy yourself a nice fountain pen to commemorate the occasion.

  74. i agree. There's a lot about this apartment that is "off". I wonder if the downstairs toilet that doesn't have a sink nearby is in violation of health codes. The staircase is a disaster waiting to happen. After the recent hurricane situation in New York I would be very, very leery of a basement space as it might be filled with water or maybe already had been flooded. Then there's the lack of light and view. I'd have to be paid to live there.

  83.  @arlenesolis024  That reminds me of what I saw in one of Cash's recent videos made in an older apartment. I'm sure the white ceiling beams had varnished wood that had been painted over. The metal plates around the old glass doorknobs had also been painted over and I wouldn't be surprised if the white doors also had painted-over varnish. Sad to see all that and it would have been easier to just leave those things as they were.

This apartment has a lot going for it but I saw one very serious flaw: As soon as you enter the apartment through the front door you're standing at the top of a flight of stairs immediately to the left and with no gate or barrier at the top of the stairs. It would be very easy for someone to walk into the apartment, take just one or two steps and then fall down a flight of stairs. The entrance area of this apartment is dangerous.

  86. Very interesting, Cash! Not only interesting but informative. The first thing I'd go see in NYC is the Dakota though the Chrysler Building is spectacular. (I've heard that the observation area at the top and some of the most luxurious office space has been closed off for years) Here in mini-Manhattan/Bloomington, Indiana, I'm also outdoors a lot. This helps a lot: t-shirt, shirt, sweater then put on a coat; a pair of flannel pajama pants or a pair of sweatpants then put on the blue jeans. Being layered really helps.

  95. I don't use bags but I know that with a Louis Vuitton you have a purchase that's for a lifetime. If you divide the cost by the number of years you can reasonably expect to use your bag I have a hunch you made a good purchase. Even when you're gone another family member may continue using the bag. Too there's that old saying, "Quality is your best investment". I hope you get a lot of use and enjoyment from your purchase!

  102. I would love to know what that interior space looked like when the house was new. My plan for for the space with the bow window: home library! Put the bookshelves along the walls to the right to keep the books out of direct light. One or two armchairs by the window. A small table for stacking up books and for your cup of hot chocolate.   112. The building in this video looks familiar. Is this the same house that was shown for exteriors of the Sheffield house in Fran Drescher's TV series "The Nanny"? The ivy over the window may look good and provide a curtain but is terrible for buildings as it gets into spaces and cracks and damages the building. Pedestal sinks are nice and multi-purpose. I've seen a pedestal sink used as a birdbath in someone's front lawn!

I like architectural history and I think that big room on the first floor was originally a combination of front and back parlors with sliding doors in between or maybe a parlor in front with dining room in back. Cash, this video would be good for an art appreciation class: the room shown at 7:58 with its color and vertical and horizontal surfaces and the light on the wall and floor makes this room look like a modern-day painting by Edward Hopper!

  119. Some great stuff in the neighborhood and the apartment. I have some trouble with loft apartments: there is so much unused air space and you still have to pay for the heating and cooling. Even if the loft area here was to be extended, how far can it be extended? How do you clean the windows at the top of the loft? This one doesn't quite work for me but I have a hunch it's going to be great for someone who will love living there.

Here in Indiana I used to work with someone who was a realtor and was told that when a home is for sale the realtor isn't required to say if someone died in the house but that the realtor does have to give that information if someone specifically asks. I don't know if that applies to NYC apartments. I live in an apartment complex in that has gone through three different owners in three years while I've lived here for almost 11 years. I doubt that the new owners even know about people who have died here in their apartments over the years and could answer a question about that from prospective tenants. I got to know my next-door niehgbor but never told her a previous resident had died in apartment, didn't see any need to reveal that information.

  128. i don't know why it is but here in Bloomington, Indiana/mini Manhattan a huge number of new apartments geared toward college students have been built and more buildings are on the way. For some reason many new buildings around here are required to have retail space on the ground floor yet there are buildings who ground floors have been empty for years now. I don't understand how it all works but even I can tell that eventually there will be too many apartments. May take a while: I was told that if you have around 30% occupancy here you can still get by but maybe that's because of the outrageous rents. That and something about taxes and selling a building after only a few years. Too we're moving toward a time when there will be fewer college students because of people having fewer children. Looks like we're moving to a time of lots of empty apartments and/or subsidized housing.

No matter how great the apartment and the view, if there's not a stairway with a reasonable chance of getting to safety then you just have a beautiful potential death trap. i think of fires such as the Triangle Shirtwaist fire there in New York or the fictional fire in "The Towering Inferno" and how the stairs in the Glass Tower were blocked by spilled cement. There should always be more than one route to or from. For me I don't want to ever live higher than the third floor and the first and second floors are even better.

Firefighters have left this town to go live and work in surrounding towns where they maybe earning $20,000 (!) more per year. Too this town is a university town with very high rents so the firefighters who leave are making a lot more money and probably paying a lot less for housing.

Though it was published in about 1978, a book that is still very interesting is "Life at the Dakota" by Stephen Birmingham. If you can become a fan of building, that book made a fan out of me! I even like the fictional version of the Dakota: the Bramford in "Rosemary's Baby" and the two apartments that had started out as one apartment and there was a hidden door.

I'm still a country cousin type and am accustomed to having a soybean field in back of the house---and that was IN town so anything very high up makes me uncomfortable. For that and because of the safety factor I hope to never live or work higher than the third floor. This apartment is like having a penthouse almost at street level, a great arrangement for people such as myself.

I live in Bloomington, Indiana, which has a huge university in the very middle of town (a large town within a town) and which makes for different kinds of diversity that make the town a mini-Manhattan including a vast number of expensive rental properties. In-person classes are suspended until early February. The apartment complex where I live now has a new owner who sent out an email asking tenants if they would be interested in a special deal for people who renew their lease. I haven't heard more but I'm wondering if I'll be able to get an arrangement in which my rent stays the same or maybe even reduced though the latter may be a little too optimistic!

The style of bathroom fixtures doesn't concern me particularly as I grew up in an older house which had fixtures from different eras, just give me a clean bathroom (bathtub preferred for a good, hot soak) and not TOO many mirrors. Really, I somewhat prefer older-style fixtures---but not so old that it means big piece of wood with a round hole in a tiny structure behind the house or something kept under the bed!---I'm really not a sofa person so I'd have the bed away from the kitchen area and get a regular table. It would be nice to sit there and eat a meal and watch the scene outside.

  175. Very interesting, Cash! I really enjoy videos such as this one. You provide valuable information. I'm here in Bloomington, Indiana/mini-Manhattan. I have co-workers who now work from home and our work site looks and is mostly deserted. We have loads of rental properties being run by a few management companies that I find, based on expereience, to be second-rate/almost slumlords, who are making as much as they can into August-to-August leases because we have Indiana University right in the middle of town. Also there are managment companies that will make you decide on renewing or not renewing your lease when you're not even six weeks into it. Legal but "highly unethical" according to a friend experienced in real estate. Rents are confiscatory and some businesses can't hire people because potential employees can't afford to live here in town! Some people who already commute are finding that it's becoming so expensive that working here isn't worth it. Many jobs are available here I'm not sure about wages and benefits. Indiana University recently started paying a minumum of $15/hour yet fast food places pay better and have better hours and better parking and better locations. Something has to give somewhere in terms of paying people more and charging them less for rent.

One thing I've learned is a funny difference between Manhattan and Bloomington, Indiana: on the ground floor in Manhattan people are concerned about rats.   204. The New York apartment for me doesn't actually exist: I want the apartment that Rosemary and Guy moved into in the movie "Rosemary's Baby". Cash, I live in Bloomington, Indiana, which Habitat for Humanity found, at that time anyway, to be the least affordable city in the United States because people were paying half of their income for housing. I'm amazed at the apartment buildings that keep being built here, luxury apartments for college students. There's a zoning rule that some or all of these new buildings have to have commercial space on the ground floors. Some of those business spaces I pass by have been empty since the buildings opened and probably will stay that way. Indiana University is huge and right in the center of town and hires many people but those people can't afford to live in town or have to live far from their workplace. Even before Covid and the university going online for much of the year I was wondering how much longer expensive student housing can keep being built before there are too many apartments. We may be at that point now because of the virus situation.

I've come to realize I could never live in NYC, it would be overwhelming for a rural type such as myself but I love to experience the city through your videos. Here in the university town of Bloomington, Indiana, rents are sky-high because of so many college students many of whom have a lot of money one way or another. Classes are now online until next February and I wonder how many students will just stay with online classes which are cheaper than in-person. You've gotten me curious about the rental situation in this type of environment: how may landlords are are willing to be more flexible and how many apartments are just empty. Also: Yes! Please! Bring on the hoarder apartments and other awful ones. AND...that clear spiral staircase is ridiculous and dangerous!

I'm very big on fire safety and having stove burners only inches away from the wall makes me very uncomfortable.   216. I see a winner here! The rear area on the second floor could be a home office as suggested and also it would be a great place to have bookshelves for a home library. Sunlight damages books so that shaded place would be great for them but I'd want a comfortable armchair by a window for when I'm reading a book.

  217. Question for Cash and other New Yorkers: I was noticing that many of the buildings in the neighborhood are cleary from the 1800's and the earlier part of the 1900's. Were those structures built to be residential only and the businesses added later on or were they always a combination? I love those built-in bookshelves/shrine area but not up in the windowless loft. If the shelve were downstairs there could have been a great home library area but I guess not that many people anymore have or read many physical books. That IS a lot of shelf space and I suspect more than many people would want. I don't own enough to use all that upstairs storage space. The apartment isn't quite for me but someone is going to love living there.

Cash, this may be a little off-topic but you and your viewers may be interested in a book I'm reading: "Alone Together--A History of New York's Early Apartments" by Elizabeth Collins Cromley; Cornell University Press, 1990. The book is about how the concept of multi-resident, multi-family buildings was introduced to New York in the mid-19th century from Europe and had to be adapted to American lifestyles and values and especially in Manhattan. In the mid-1800's in Manhattan there was a shortage of stand-alone, single family houses along with a greatly expanding population. Some people believed that living in an apartment house would destroy morals and families, and the public had to get accustomed to the concept of apartment living.

  226. You're right , Cash: "Naps are amazing". For some reason I sleep much better in the daytime than at night. As someone old enought to be your dad: You look so tired. Please make time for yourself to rest. That down time can actually be the best use of your time. As much trouble as you're dealing with at least it wasn't worse: no one was injured or worse from falling debris, no one was electrocuted from the mixture of water and electrical equipment.

  235. When I see this old house I think of what has been lost. I've seen the movie "Washington Square" which takes place when a house such as this one would have been 30 years old at the most and when I compare what the original interior must have been like to the stark mostly-whiteness of what is now there I just feel sad. I wonder how many carved pillars and arched doorways and pocket doors have been removed. In fairness, though, since the house had been used for business, many of the original interior fixtures and features may have been removed many years or been too worn out to keep. We can be glad that this house from so far back in New York's history is still standing.

Privacy and solitude are great but as I'm approaching 60 and have had the experience of being alone in my place after surgery I've become aware of the value of having someone else around in case of illness or accident. I would like to share a place with someone/s and I think there can be an arrangement where there's a balance of space and time for oneself and of interacting with other people. If the people sharing a place have the same priorities I'm sure something can be arranged that will work for everyone.

It looks like the view is more terrace than the surrounding community and the views of Manhattan further away. For most if not all of the apartment you have to go outside to really see the view. I would actually do better with the apartment upstairs.

  243. I noticed how much bathroom space is mirrored, maybe a little too much. I read a comment once that are some things you do in a bathroom that you don't want to see yourself doing. After being locked out of my apartment just once I started wearing an extra key around my neck. The only time I remove it is when I get a haircut. That maybe a little extreme for some people if I need a key, I have it.

  254. I find the view from the apartment to be dreary and those open staircases that are something like ladders make me uneasy. With all that room I would have liked to have seen a washer and drier but overall a great place for the right person. Not interested in bars but if there were second-hand bookshops nearby or a branch of the library; one nice, family-style restaurant and a nearby grocery store I would be a happy resident!

I probably mentioned it before, Cash, but since you and your viewers are interested in apartments, you might enjoy the 1993 hair-raising, blood-run-cold Japanese novel of the supernatural"The Graveyard Apartment" by Mariko Koike. A father and mother and young daughter (sound like anyone we know?) move into a new apartment building by an old cemetery and strange things happen from the get-go. Things don't go in ways the reader might expect and the tension and suspense build and build until...well, no spoilers here!

I'm a little off-kilter seeing a view higher than the third floor and not having woods and fields and trees or some combination thereof. I'm old enough now that living alone doesn't appeal to me the way it did when I was young so for safety and for company I'll take the two-bedroom.

I recall at the end how Ava Gardner as the leasing agent was showing an apartment a young couple and the husband asked about quiet neighbors. The leasing agent said that there was one neighbor "...who is a recluse. She is a nun", and you see how the young woman who is the main character had become the sentinel. Talk about chilling. I love the apartments in "Rosemary's Baby": Rosemary and Guy's apartment both before and after they move in and then Roman and Minnie's apartment and how the two living spaces were once one big apartment and are still connected though the hall closet. I'd love to have one of those reaction videos with Cash responding to the two apartments from his professional and even personal viewpoint. I like both of the apartments myself, there in the errie Bramford apartment building which is a fictional version of the real-life Dakota.

Very nice place in an odd way but impractical for many people. Too I see a huge amount of open space, the heating and cooling of which has to be paid for but that serves no purpose.   285. Wonderful place! A small drawback is that the kitchen sink has right angles and corners rather than curves. That could be a cleaning issue but the sprayer might take care of cleaning those corners. If you're like me and still have paper documents and file folders, a two-drawer file cabinet could fit under the stairs and next to the kitchen area. For people who really enjoy cooking, the space under the stairs could accommodate a small bookcase for cookbooks.

  291. What a mess. I have no answers or suggestions. Well, maybe one suggestion: Cash, I've mentioned this before and will do so again now. Maybe you and the family move out of New York? --- I also ride a bike. Temperature-wise my cut-off is 20 degrees instead of the 40 degrees you mentioned. If you ride your bike in temperatures below 40 you will get used to it and it will save money on train fare and possibly be safer as well.

Bloomington where I live with a huge university a few blocks from the town square in some ways could be a mini-Manhattan with the diversity of people and businesses including restaurants. We even have high rents! I've seen little shopping activity downtown. Someone said our College Mall is "like a ghost town". Macy's there is closing. With Christmas being the make-or-break time for many businesses I won't be surprised if we see more of them closing in the near future.

  311. Cash, I'm getting the sense that you and your family will be leaving New York. Maybe you're not yet at that point of decision but, in your videos I've been getting the impression that your time in that city is coming to an end. On a happier note; I've noticed that the brick building with the gabled roof across the street from the building where your office is located clearly goes a long way back in New York history. That's a structure from the days of shutters on windows and of horse-drawn vehicles.

  314. All those bookshelves and a sliding ladder? I am IN! Two small points: in a couple of the bathrooms the sink is quite a distance from the "throne". Also I'm a little uncomfortable with the wood flooring beneath the fireplace. It would have been better to have some tile or stone there for fire safety and so the wood doesn't get damaged. The first point isn't a big deal, the second one can be fixed.

  317. I wonder if many people in New York simply take the initiative to clear the storm drains around their homes and businesses. I'm not saying cleared drains would have prevented what Cash discussed here as the sewers are over-burdened, but it can still help if only a little.

  320. Cash, it's much the same here in Bloomington, Indiana/mini-Manhattan. The presence of a huge, over-populated university in the middle of town sends rents up and up while blue-collar/working class people can't afford to live in town and while more and more apartments are being built. and at the same time we have many homeless people. I 'm not a builder or economist but even I can see that some kind of economic bubble is going to have to burst.

Being a Hoosier from rural Indiana I'm not a fan of high places but am finding these high-up places less unsettling and the views here are the wow. BUT....I'm not ready for balconies yet and especially not the kind with transparent barriers! I need a penthouse...on the third floor!

  322. If that tile in the second bathroom isn't a flat surface and has a washboard kind of surface as it appears then it's going to be need a lot of scrubbing to prevent mold. --- I would have gotten the centipede out of the tub and let it go outside.

  324. My idea of an entertainment center is a bookcase or bookshelves. I don't need a TV and that long living room wall would be a ideal for unpacking, shelving and organizing the hundreds of books I presently have in cardboard boxes. For me THAT would be FUN!

I don't know much about rent stabilizing but we could sure do with some kind of rent control in the university town where I live and where the rents are so high that there are working people who can't even afford to live in town. Some businesses don't have employees because potential employees can't afford housing. The raising of rents has to stop somewhere.
