In various traditional creation myths a supreme being usually sends an animal (most often a type of bird, but also crustaceans, insects, and fish in some narratives). From Proto-Finnic *soomu. Scale (one of the keratin pieces covering the skin of certain animals). Likewise, the Book of Revelation makes use of ancient serpent and the Dragon several times to identify Satan or the Devil. Suomu makes more sense than suo (swamp).
